Rated 5 out of 5 by from Woodcutter Universal Forestry Axe I have two other Stihl brand axes. A Pro Splitting Axe and a PA Splitting Hatchet, both have exceeded my expectations. That is why I considered this tool. At just 23 inches and a 2.2 pound head this ax is easy to carry and swing. I use it primarily while felling trees in the wood lot. I use it to clear brush, limb, and drive plastic wedges. I have had this Axe for fifteen months and although the chain saws are the workhorses this little guy compliments them well. The bit is about 5.5" and has a good cutting taper with a deeper beard than most. It came sharp but I touched it up with a polishing stone. The poll is squared off and will drive plastic wedges easily. There are two circlular wedges making for a tight fit to the handle. The handle is made of ash and has paint and varnish on it. The shoulder has been extended to offer more strength. The grip and the throat make this a comfortable handle to use. I have touched up the edge several times, not that it really needed it but rather I enjoy keeping my tools in the best condition.that I can.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice tool if head will stay on handle I currently own my second axe bearing the Stihl name. The second is because the head came loose on the handle on the first one. This time it is the same problem. I am a fairly large strong man and I use the tool as I would any other axe for whacking branches and driving wedges. It is the correct size and weight I like......However there is some sort of design flaw that causes head to come loose. I own several Stihl saws and use them on a daily basis. I need the axe to be as dependable as the saws are. I know this can be remedied.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great design, poor quality I like the design and size, many times a full size axe is to big and a hatchet is to small. This axe fits that need, and is great for limbing. The problem with it is the Ash handle is junk and probably wouldn't even hold up for homeowner yard work. Also getting a replacement handle can be a hassle because of the D shape eye. You must order it from sthil or the original manufacturer Ox Head, where you can get a hickory handle but it's not cheep and gets shipped from Germany

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Found this tool very durable as a timber felling axe for driving wedges Started using this axe this year as a trial to see how it held up to driving wedges as part of my job felling timber. Well it held up surprisingly well and even though its a little on the light side I found I could get a good powerful fast swing that could drive wedges into a heavy side and back leaner that was 45" dbh. The handle at the head of the axe is strong and with all the heavy wedge work the head is still holding tight. Only issue I had was the second axe I bought I did not check the grain orientation in the handle and it snapped right at the upper bend when I was driving my first wedge with it. So make sure you check the grain on the handle and make sure it is oriented vertically and not horizontal for the strongest axe handle. They are guaranteed for life if the handle fail premature so that is a nice feature from Stihl. Fits into metal scabbards well. Overall great timber falling axe that I would recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An excellent axe. This axe is extremely well built. I had to do a minor amount of sharpening when I got it, but it took a razor sharp edge and holds it well. The shape is good for general purposes, but leans towards chopping more than splitting. It's a good size for my needs; Small enough to fit in a backpack for camping, but big enough to take with me car camping or to process wood at the house. I haven't used it a huge amount, but it's holding up well so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interesting design Thin bit cut deep and clean on green birch. Ample striking surface for pounding soft wedges. Choke up to extended shoulder to split kindling for good balance. Seems to hold a decent edge so far. Easy to carry in an aluminum scabbard.
